The Central Tablelands Local Land Services in Australia used GPS trackers to map out the activity of people's pet cats. Cats are considered an invasive species in Australia and can have devastating effects on the native wildlife. The aim of the project was to show owners how far their cats were venturing into the wild. "Cats are given a pretty bad rap. In terms of the damage they do to biodiversity, to native fauna and flora," said Peter Evans, a senior land officer to Mashable. He added, "You always get the comment from owners that their cat doesn't roam ... but we thought it was a great visual to show owners where cats go when they don't know where they are, because generally a lot of cats are unrestrained."
