Family lives their dream in a self-built dome at the Arctic Circle (16 Photos)

Turns out the word 'Hjertefølger' means 'heart follower' in Norwegian, which couldn't be more appropriate for the Hjertefølger family who have followed their name's calling. The family of six dropped everything in their life back in the December of 2013 to build their own sustainable life by constructing a dome in the middle of the Arctic Circle. The entire Geodesic dome (which is a partly spherical structure comprised of a complex network of triangles, to the layman) took the family two full years to complete, but as wise folks say, sometimes the end justifies the means. The finished dome is three-stories tall, and it features a five-bedroom, 25-foot-high solar geodesic dome on Norway's Sandhornøya island, located just north of Oslo. This particular dome is comprised of various organic materials including sand, water, and clay, and the shape manages to retain heat while effectively blanketing the family from the strong winds and heavy snowfalls common in the region. An addition, the dome also sits atop a garden area of fruits and vegetables the Hjertefølgers started themselves in order to a accomplish a self-sustainable living. And as for the view, frankly, it's in a class all its own with panoramic views of the pristine & untouched wilderness, and unobstructed views of the yearly Northern Lights.

How a missed kick and a yard cost NFL players cold, hard cash (3 Photos)

Posted: 04 Jan 2017 06:45 AM PST

When it comes to NFL players you can't really feel sorry for them when it comes to salary and pay. Sure, some guys come from nothing and some guys don't stay long in the league to reap the benefits, but by and large NFL players are pretty blessed. That includes kickers--especially the likes of Adam Vinatieri who signed a $6 million contract with the Indianapolis Colts last offseason that will pay him $3.25 million this year. But that doesn't negate the fact that money lost is money lost and that always hurts. So even though Vinatieri and the Colts played a meaningless game on Sunday, there was money on the line for the Hall of Fame kicker. He came into last Sunday's game with a field goal percentage of 89.7 and with a $500,000 incentive in his contract for having a field goal percentage of 90 at season's end he had some work to do to reach the milestone. Unfortunately the Super Bowl winning kicker went 1 for 2 on field goals--missing a 48 yarder-- and dropped his percentage to 87.1. Had he made both kicks he would've been over the 90% threshold. But that might not be the most agonizing story from Sunday...

Girls with mugshots so good they could pass as headshots (22 Photos)

Nobody wants to have their very own mugshot taken -- fact. Sadly, however, mistakes are made and if you're stuck facing the music, you might as well make the best out of a bad situation. These girls really nailed their mugshot photos in a way that is damn near commendable. Hell, most people can't take a photo like these in their everyday civilian life.
